Scripture (NKJV): Genesis 16; Genesis 16:7; Genesis 16:13

What's said in this video

Start with a lady called Hagar. You know the girl in the desert. She's an Egyptian. She's a slave. She's owned by a woman called Sari who can't have children and hands her to her husband to get one. So now she's pregnant by the man who owns her. And the woman who owns her turns on her. So she runs into the desert on a road back to Egypt with nobody looking for her. And scripture says that an angel of the Lord found her by a spring in the wilderness. Now check this. The phrase angel of the Lord comes up hundreds of times in scripture. And this is the very first the first time it ever appears not to a king or to a prophet or to anyone that in in in the world's view would be classed as important but to a runaway slave girl in the middle of nowhere.

And the first thing this angel says is her name. And she does something that nobody else in the whole record of scripture ever does. She gives God a name. She says, "You are the god who sees." If you're a girl whose whole life has turned into a running score of who's looking at you, hear this. Before anyone else ever looked at you, you were seen by the one who made you. He found Hagar when no one was looking for her. He knew her name. He knows your name.
